Cielo Privacy

Updated October 6, 2026

Cielo: Cloud Identification offers automated visual estimates of clouds and sky cover. Richard Harris Podolsky operates the app and its analysis service.

Images sent for analysis

When you press Analyze Sky for a photo, Cielo sends that image to the Cielo analysis service. When you press Start Analysis in Camera or Video, Cielo sends sampled still frames, one request at a time. It does not upload a video file or audio. Stop Analysis, switching modes, or leaving the app stops sampling.

The service processes submitted images to return cloud estimates. The current analysis route reads images into memory; it does not intentionally save a library of submitted images or use them to train the model through this app workflow. Do not include people or private information in images you choose to analyze.

Permissions and other information

Camera and photo-library access are requested when you choose those features. Cielo does not request microphone or location permission. No account is required. The app does not include advertising or cross-app tracking.

Requests travel over HTTPS through ngrok to the Cielo service. ngrok's Traffic Inspector currently retains limited request metadata, including IP address, request time, and path, for three days. Full capture of request and response bodies is disabled. Other network and hosting providers may process technical information to deliver and secure requests.

Email and sharing

Email Results and Share Cielo act only when you choose them. They use your device's email or sharing tools. Any content you send is handled by the service you select.
